Random: Life in Song

2011

I am under the impression that there is a song for everything.

The good.

The bad.

The happy.

The sad.

If someone were to observe my general behaviour over the course of 24 hours, they would soon come to the realisation that I am one of those really pesky people who constantly have random tunes winding their way through my brain, which then find themselves projectile from my mouth in the form of unbearable singing.

How the Beach Boys envisioned their "God Only Knows" track from the Pet Sounds album

Surely such conduct was inherited, which means I should never be put to shame for the exasperation that arises. I apologise to all that have had to endure the wailing, but really, if you could peer within that space between my two ears (self-testified to be filled with wondrous things) and see the way that it is slightly twisted, then perhaps you may understand.

These outbursts of song are brought about by a wide and varied medley of situations.

Do you ever have John Farnham’s “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” [1970] or even more commonly, Gene Kelly’s “Singin’ In The Rain” [1952] slip from your lips each time you find yourself walking in the rain?

As boys and girls ride past on their fancy two wheels, do you get the urge to burst into Queen’s “Bicycle” [1978]?

Don’t you just want to smile and sing Electric Light Orchestra’s “Mr Blue Sky” [1977] or Oklahoma’s “Oh What A Beautiful Mornin'” [1943] when the weather in Melbourne is blooming perfect?

Was that a yes, or a no?

Well I do.

So this week I have collated videos that I think people could relate to if they ever find themselves in a similar situation (like the one suggested). In some instances, the song just may be the most applicable answer to the problem.

In the meantime, I’m going to do a Bridget Jones and like myself ‘Just the way I am‘.
